Volunteers to paint 13 homes at House of Refuge in Mesa

Volunteers from 16 home building industry companies will converge on the House of Refuge campus in Mesa Friday for a marathon one-day paint-a-thon to paint 13 homes.

House of Refuge, 6859 E. Ursula Ave., provides safe and stable transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness. The nonprofit has gone years without this much-needed maintenance, according to a release.

The 150 participating company volunteers will paint their “adopted” homes 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5. The event is a project of HomeAid Phoenix, the local affiliate of HomeAid America, which has a mission to help individuals experiencing homelessness improve their lives through housing development and community engagement.

A total of 400 gallons of paint have been donated by Sherwin Williams for the project.

Participating companies include Arizona Tile, Ashton Woods Homes, BrightView Landscape, Brookfield Residential, Gothic Landscape, Lennar, loanDepot, Mattamy Homes, Nally Construction Co., The New Home Co., Pulte Homes, PWI Residential, Shea Homes, Studio Dwell, Thomas Title & Escrow, Tri Pointe Homes.

House of Refuge

Located in southeast Mesa, House of Refuge maintains 88 housing units to provide safe and stable transitional housing to families who are experiencing homelessness. Professional staff work with families on regaining dignity, healing from trauma, finding employment and ultimately obtaining permanent housing, according to the release.

HomeAid’s mission is to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement and education. HomeAid’s vision is to be a vital force in creating safe and dignified housing and programmatic facilities for those who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, the release states.
