House of Refuge, a nonprofit organization in Mesa, recently received a $15,000 Union Pacific Railroad Community Ties Giving Program grant in support of its transitional housing program for homeless families.
Since 1996, House of Refuge Inc. has provided families in crisis a path out of homelessness. Professional staff help residents regain dignity, improve income, work toward self-reliance and successfully graduate into stable housing in the community according to a release.
This grant award will fund housing in a peaceful neighborhood setting and essential social services for an entire year — including utilities, property maintenance, household goods, case management, employment assistance, adult education and youth enrichment programming.
Union Pacific’s Community Ties Giving Program provides small- and medium-sized grants that align with the railroad’s priority cause areas in safety, workforce development and community spaces, the release states.
“Union Pacific proudly supports organizations that improve the quality of life where our employees live and work,” Scott Moore, senior vice president for corporate relations, chief administrative officer and Union Pacific Foundation president, said in the release. “Investing in high-quality, nonprofit programs puts our communities in a position for future growth and prosperity.”
