New exhibit at Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum

Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum will open “A Murmuration of Found Feathers in Flight” by Arizona artist Alexandra Bowers on Friday, Jan. 15.

Ms. Bowers is known for her intricate nature inspired pyrographic (burned wood), watercolor and wax pigment colored drawings.

For this exhibition, she uses her work to create a healing and tranquil space during this time of change and transition.

Her latest installation, “A Murmuration of Found Feathers in Flight,” immortalizes in wood the 1,000 feather photographs she received from the community. The drawings, which are suspended from the gallery wall, are mobilized by a light breeze, simulating the effect of floating feathers.

Admission to the museum at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., is free but reservations are recommended. The Jan. 16-April 4 show is in the North Gallery.

The museum is closed on Mondays and open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
