With fewer than 226,100 votes counted by the Maricopa County Elections Department, Joe O’Reilly, Kiana Maria Sears and Lara Salmon Ellingson appear to be the top vote-getters for three open positions for the Mesa Unified School District Governing Board — with 17%, 18% and 19% of votes cast respectively. Tallied votes were last posted at 9:10:16 p.m. Nov. 12.

Six candidates are vying for three seats on the Governing Board. They are: Richard Crandall, Ms. Ellingson, Vikki Johnson, Joseph O’Reilly, Ms. Sears and Ms. Steiner.

Mesa Public Schools is the largest public school district in Arizona, educating more than 64,500 students in preschool through 12th grade. The district has six comprehensive high schools, nine junior high schools, 50 elementary schools and 17 choice and success schools, according to mpsaz.org

The Governing Board meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the Board Room of the district’s Curriculum Services Center, 549 N. Stapley Drive. Regular board meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are streamed at mpsaz.org/live and are posted at district’s YouTube page.
