Mesa police investigating apparent elderly couple murder-suicide

The Mesa Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after an elderly couple were found dead in a Mesa care facility in the early morning hours of Oct. 16.

Mesa PD responded to a call at around 4 a.m. from a care facility in the 1000 block of West Mendoza Avenue after they received a report of two residents being shot and who were not breathing, according to a press release.

The officers said they were led into a bedroom where they discovered 92-year-old Jerome Woolums and 93-year-old Katharine Woolums with gunshot wounds to the head.
