Town/neighborhood: I live in the Alta Mesa neighborhood near the Higley and Brown Road cross streets in Mesa.

When and why I moved here: I moved to the USA in January 1998 and married my wife, Jennifer. She wanted to live close to her parents and they had a home in the same Mesa neighborhood at that time. We moved into our current home in late 1998.

What I like most about living here: We live in a great neighborhood with good access to the rest of the Valley for work, shopping and entertainment, etc. The weather in Arizona is perfect, and we are fortunate to have access to some beautiful desert wildernesses and mountain parks. As a British expat, I do not miss the rain.

What I do: I am a senior project manager with Canyon State Electric.

What I like most about what I do: My start in this industry was as an electrician before moving into supervision roles, estimating and finally project management. What I like most about my current job is that I am involved in all parts of the construction process from the estimation and initiation stages throughout the construction and completion of each project. It allows me to influence and participate in the process at all levels.

Why I wanted to join Canyon State Electric’s team: I wanted to join a company that would support my continued career growth and provide opportunities for me to learn and advance. It was also clear early on that the senior management at CSE shared my desire to refine and improve processes and to be part of an outstanding team in our industry and local market.

Changes I’d like to see in the industry: We need to do a better job of promoting construction as a viable and respectable career path and continue to invest in the training and development of the next generation of builders.

My future goals for myself within CSE and the industry: I consider myself fortunate to have worked for some great companies and learned from many individuals along the way. I hope to build on Canyon State Electric’s past success by continually improving processes and helping to develop our team and the next generation of construction professionals.

Favorite community cause & why: I admire the many volunteer groups in town who actively devote their time and resources to animal rescue and fostering activities. Over the years we have adopted several cats and dogs, with one stray cat and most recently a dog coming home with me from construction sites.

My family: I live with my wife Jennifer, two daughters Chelsey and Molly, three dogs, and one cat.

My interests and hobbies: I enjoy trail running, especially on the single-track trails around the Valley. I also enjoy walking my dogs and the occasional game of golf.

The trait(s) I admire in others: Integrity and honesty.

People who inspired me (and how): I had the good fortune to learn the project management job under a mentor who loved the industry and took the time to share his knowledge and experience along with a few stories. I am regularly reminded of his influence in how I approach my daily activities and in how I work with my team members.

My guiding philosophy: Do the right thing especially when nobody is looking.
