Name: The Rev. Jason Taylor

Age: 48

Town/neighborhood: East Mesa/Apache Junction

When and why I moved here: My family moved here when I was a teen.

What I like most about living here: The scenery and the small-town feel.

What I do: I am the president and founder of Other Side Ministries, a nonprofit that provides culinary job training and outreach to homeless and low-income persons. I also founded HOPE Cafe (Helping Others Prosper Endlessly), our for-profit catering company that hires students.

What I like most about what I do: I get to serve others and make a difference in the world.

Favorite community cause and why: Well Other Side Ministries of course. I also partner and love Genesis Project; they allow me to have an office in the resource center and teach my job-training class there. I also provide meals every other Sunday. They truly love and care for the people they serve and have been a staple in the community for some time.

My family: I have an amazing wife, Tamara, who works beside me in service. She is both beautiful and kind. I also have a beautiful daughter who is a gift from God.

My interests and hobbies: Camping, hiking and reading. I also practice Chi Gong for stress relief and health.

The trait(s) I admire in others: Kindness, gentleness and compassion. Also people who can fold a fitted sheet.

People who inspired me (and how): Mother Teresa, Gandhi, most of all Jesus.

My guiding philosophy: “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time” — Desmond Tutu.
