Meet Your Neighbor: Kylie Digges of Mesa writes book on Harry Potter trivia

Posted

Name: Kylie Digges

Age: 40

Town/neighborhood: Eastmark in Mesa

When and why I moved here: My husband and I moved to Mesa in 2017. We each owned condos, in Chandler and Gilbert, before getting married, and when we decided to buy our first home, we found the perfect one to build in the growing area of Eastmark.

What I like most about living here: We have a chill, suburban lifestyle while still being a stone’s throw from a major city for the sports, concerts and events.

What I do: I’m a trivia writer and pub quiz host with my own company, Brainwave Trivia. I host a weekly game at the Handlebar Diner in Mesa and I have clients who host my games in many locations around the U.S.

How I came up with the content for my book, “Petrivia Totalus: A quiz book about Harry Potter”: I’ve read the Harry Potter series multiple times; a re-read is an annual undertaking, characteristic for a Ravenclaw like myself. For the book, I came up with a framework of the chapters or subquizzes I wanted and then went through the books, making notes as I went about what tidbits would make good questions.

Other books I have written: This is my fourth trivia book. I have also written quiz books on “Friends,” “Sex and the City” and 1990s films. I’m working on my fifth book about 1980s movies right now and expect to publish it next month.

What I like most about what I do: I love to learn, and writing quiz questions lets me discover new, interesting facts and craft fun questions to test people’s knowledge. I also just love watching people have a good time playing games I’ve created.

Changes I’d like to see in this area: I’m looking forward to the freeway (State Route 24) construction being finished.

My family: My husband, Tim, and our two cats, Djackson and Archer.

My interests and hobbies: Classic trivia nerd answers: watching movies, reading, doing puzzles — both crossword and jigsaw — and playing board games.

The trait(s) I admire in others: Kindness, curiosity and honesty.

People who inspired me (and how): My parents, who showed me the importance of hard work as well as how crucial it is to let loose when it’s time to play.

My guiding philosophy: Treat other people the way you want to be treated — and be a generous tipper.
