Man charged with 1st-degree murder in Mesa shooting

Posted

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the March 7 killing of Jacques Bourdeau in Mesa, police said Friday.

Elliot Bennett of Lake Havasu City has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and first-degree burglary and is being held on a $1 million bond, according to Mesa police.

Authorities said about 7:30 p.m. on March 7, Mesa officers responded to the area of 600 South Essex Lane for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Bourdeau, 44, inside a home with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers spoke to people at the home and learned that a man, later identified as Bennett, came to the home after contacting Bourdeau on the phone, police said.

“A short time after Bennett arrived, shots were fired and Jacques ran into the home, hiding in the bathroom with another person,” police said in a release.

“Witnesses told officers that Bennett forced entry into the home and bathroom, where he shot Jacques multiple times, before fleeing in a gray sedan."

Mesa police found Bennett on March 9 at his Lake Havasu City address and arrested him.
