Jerry’s Restaurant returns to the Valley with Mesa location

Posted

Last summer, Jerry’s Restaurant closed its doors in Phoenix after 53 years of serving classic American diner food to a loyal following.

At that time, Rooted Concepts, the ownership group behind Los Sombreros and Carnitas Way, purchased the Phoenix restaurant, along with Jerry’s locations in Safford and Fallon, Nevada. This August, Jerry’s is opening in the Valley as a delivery-only concept out of Mesa.

“We like to refer to it as Jerry’s 2.0,” Kurt Riske, head of Rooted Concepts, said in a prepared statement.

“I’ve been around Jerry’s Restaurant for years. My dad worked at the Phoenix Jerry’s since 1991, so I have gotten to know many of Jerry’s loyal customers and it’s incredible to see the following Jerry’s has here in the Valley. For the moment, we are opening Jerry’s as a delivery only concept, which suits today’s times, since a large percentage of restaurant customers are ordering out and dining at home.”

The kitchen of the newly opened Mesa Los Sombreros at 1976 W. Southern Ave is serving as the ghost kitchen or cloud kitchen for the new Mesa Jerry’s, according to a press release.

“This is an unusual year, and we’ve gotten comfortable thinking outside the box,” Mr. Riske said.

“We’ve been intrigued with the rising trend of cloud kitchens, and this year seemed right for testing it out. We’re using our Mesa Los Sombreros as the home base for delivery of Los Sombreros, our new burrito concept Carnitas Way that launched last month, and now Jerry’s as well.”

The new Valley Jerry’s Restaurant will offer a similar menu to the original, which was at 2303 E. Thomas Road.

According to the recently released Door Dash report The Deep Dish: Food Trends in 2020, comfort food is a big trend in the first half of 2020. Choices include a variety of smash burgers, meatloaf, pot roast, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, and an expansive breakfast menu with breakfast burritos.

The new Mesa Jerry’s Restaurant offers delivery via Grubhub and DoorDash.
