Gladys Bertha Froke

Posted

Gladys, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020. She was born April 2, 1928 to Andrew and Sophia Drovdal in Peever, South Dakota. She was raised on a farm and enjoyed her chore of taking care of the chickens as a young girl. She had 8 siblings, all of whom have passed. Gladys attended Summit High School and soon after met and married the love of her life, Leonard (Bud) Froke who preceded her in death in 1998.
She was creative on many levels which showed through her quilting, sewing, decorating, flower gardens, and entertaining family and friends. She made the best meals and was known for her delicious baked goods. For Gladys, it was the simple things in life - like a cup of black coffee and a cookie - that made her day.
She was passionate about helping the homeless. After her kids were grown, she began a ministry to feed the homeless at Bethel Lutheran Church and later continued that ministry at New Life Community Church. Her giving nature and passion for helping people impacted so many.
Gladys loved people and people loved her. She made friends wherever she went and retained those friendships through the years of her life. She was known for her love, joy, hugs, laughter, and grateful spirit. Not to mention, she always brought smiles with her quick wit and funny jokes.
Gladys is survived by 5 children: Susan Sellers (Ted), Patty Bergan (Jeff), Lori Shores (Allan), Lisa Dezember (Mike), and Jon Froke (Julie), twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Gladys loved her husband and family, cherished her friendships, and faithfully served God. She was the rock and light of the family.
A family service was held on December 19, 2020. Donations may be made to Phoenix Rescue Mission or Shalom Development Center in India c/o New Life Community Church. Arrangements were handled excellently by Best Funeral Services and Sunwest Funeral Home. The family thanks Best and Sunwest.
