Gilbert Public Schools showcase elementary art with support from Norwood Furniture

Gilbert Public Schools, with support from Norwood Furniture in Downtown Gilbert, is set to present the annual Elementary Art Show on April 7-9.

This three-day event provides a platform for more than 700 students across the 26 GPS elementary schools to showcase their artistic work.

The Elementary Art Show will be held from Monday, April 7 through Wednesday, April 9, 2024, with artwork being displayed from 5- 8 p.m. each night.

"The Elementary Art Show is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and the artistic skills they've developed throughout the year,” Anne Schwaab, elementary art department head at Gilbert Public Schools and art teacher at Highland Park Elementary, said in a release. “Through our art programs, students develop essential life skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. These skills are not only valuable in art class but translate to success in all subjects, preparing them to be well-rounded individuals for the future."

The Elementary Art Show will exhibit a comprehensive collection of student artwork from all 26 GPS elementary schools. Every GPS elementary school has a designated art teacher, working with students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

The display will feature a variety of media, including drawings, paintings, clay sculptures, collages, fiber arts, 3D art and mixed media.

Each school's artwork will be displayed throughout the Norwood Furniture Store, allowing visitors to explore the range of artistic expression across the district.

Maps will be available at the event to help visitors locate specific pieces and schools.
