The annual East Valley Veterans Parade returns to downtown Mesa 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 11.

The parade will begin at Center Street and University Drive, To open, a brief program recognizing veterans for their service will be held at 10:30 a.m. and will feature remarks from Mesa Mayor John Giles, Gilbert Mayor Bridgette Peterson and the grand marshal. The parade will travel south on Center Street and turn west on First Street and then continue on First Street to Robson, according to a press release.

This year’s theme is Arizona Heroes in the Global War on Terrorism. The grand marshal is retired Army Sgt. Dan Piotrowski, a 22-year veteran who survived explosions while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, the press release said.

“Despite suffering a concussion in a truck bomb explosion at a combat outpost in Afghanistan, he worked alongside his communications specialist to restore critical radio and internet services within an hour. It was an act that saved lives,” it states.
