Two people, seriously injured Friday evening when their car collided with a dump truck in Mesa, were in stable condition Saturday morning, police said.
The crash occurred about 5 p.m. May 26 when a car heading northbound on Val Vista Drive turned left onto McKellips Road. The light was green, police said.
The dump truck was southbound on Val Vista when it struck the car, “pushing it into a utility box and ultimately crushing the car between the box and the truck,” police said in a release.
The driver and 2-year-old passenger of the car were taken to a hospital, the driver with serious life-threatening injuries. The child had serious injuries but was expected to survive.
“The dump truck driver was evaluated for impairment with none being found,” police said. Officials said the driver of the truck was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
