Battle of the Badges April 15 in Apache Junction

Posted

A softball game between Apache Junction Police Department and Superstition Fire and Medical District will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Prospector Park, 3015 N. Idaho Road in Apache Junction.

The Battle of the Badges, hosted by StandUp AJ, Apache Junction’s drug-prevention coalition, was also held last year.

“So it’s the fire department against the police department. And last year the fire department won, so I’m sure the police department is anxious to correct that — anxious to redeem themselves, I guess. And it was just so much fun,” Shelly Verley, director of StandUp AJ, said at the group’s March 1 meeting. “And we also invite other nonprofits to come so that the community that comes to see the game can also see what resources are available in Apache Junction.”

The last event of the day will be a tug-of-war competition, she said.

“Last year we played all nine innings and so that’s why this year we’re going to do something a little bit shorter and just involve the community a little bit more between each of the innings so that people aren’t just sitting there watching — they can do different things,” Verley said.

Nonprofits are invited to set up booths, Interested vendors may contact Verley at director@standupaj.org or Karen Rodrigues krodrigues@courts.az.gov.
