A 2-month-old boy died Sunday after a collision at Power and Baseline roads in Mesa, police said.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. Sept. 1 when a Honda Civic was traveling west on Baseline Road approaching Power Road and collided into the rear of a Subaru Forester that was stopped at a red light, police said.

The Forester rolled over in the intersection, and the Civic struck the driver’s side of an Audi, which also was stopped at the light in the lane next to Forester, according to a Mesa Police Department release.

All occupants of the Forester were taken to a hospital where the boy was pronounced dead.

He was in a child safety seat on the rear passenger side at the time of the crash, and it was properly installed, police said.

The driver and front passenger received minor injuries, and another child in the rear of the vehicle was treated for a broken bone.

The driver of the Civic sustained broken bones, police said, adding no signs of impairment were noted.

This crash remains under investigation, and speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
