2 drug busts include ‘one of the largest’ fentanyl hauls in Mesa PD history

Mesa police made two drug busts on the same day earlier this month that brought in one of the largest hauls of fentanyl pills in the department’s history, authorities said Thursday.

The two cases, which were unrelated to each other, led to the arrest of four men on Nov. 9 and netted pounds of heroin, cocaine and other drugs, including nearly 750,000 fentanyl pills, police said.

In the first case, Fiesta and Red Mountain street crimes units arrested Raymond Rivera Carbrera, 42, and seized approximately 28,500 fentanyl pills, 7.5 ounces of methamphetamine, 2 grams of cocaine, $3,183 and a Kel-Tec 9mm handgun with magazines and boxes of ammunition, according to a department release.

The second case was “one of the largest fentanyl pill” drug busts in department history, the release stated, and was made by Central and Super street crimes units.

Officers arrested Jesus Rojas Romero, 36, Alex Ruiz, 20, and Christian Valles Castro, 22, police said.

They also seized 714,300 Fentanyl pills, 3.5 pounds of fentanyl powder, 6 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.6 pounds of heroin, 2 pounds of cocaine and $17,039.

Both cases included the assistance of Mesa SWAT and the department’s organized crime section, according to police.
