A man died Sunday afternoon on a hike along Wave Cave Trail, authorities said.
Four others were assisted down from the trail during the first-alarm mountain rescue near Gold Canyon that included personnel from the Superstition Fire and Medical District, Mesa Fire Department and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. The four declined being taken to a hospital, according to SFMD.
Officials advise that rising temperatures increase the risk for heat illness for hikers, noting most heat deaths happen on trails between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
