Yates secures back to back wins for Stallions
Posted
Shadow Ridge junior receiver Isaac Yates helped his team repeat in the football player of the week poll and won a two-player race for the Week 8 vote.
In the poll, a total of 9,422 votes were cast.
Yates won this week with a total of 5,070 votes.
That was enough to hold off Millennium senior running back safety Jaylen Hawkins, who had 3,828 votes.
Yates scored all three of the Stallions' touchdowns, with four catches for 115 yards. He also made a crucial late game interception and four tackles in the Stallions' 21-16 win at Valley Vista Nov. 20 - which clinched a playoff berth for Shadow Ridge.
Hawkins paced Millennium to its first win in its final regular season game, a 47-6 victory at Kellis. Hawkins had 13 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns, plus four tackles.
Much further back in third place was Sunrise Mountain senior cornerback/tailback Brandon Bogard with 186 votes. He finished with four carries for 112 yards and two touckdowns, plus six tackles in the Mustangs' 33-19 home win against Cave Creek Cactus SHadows.
For the fifth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Yates will win more than bragging rights.
Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the Week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
The polls have been delayed, but we'll have two up this week. The playoff Week 1 player vote is up here and will end tonight. Look for the playoff Week 12 vote soon.
