The high school boys and girls golf season began Aug. 17 at schools across the state.
West Valley Preps and the Goodyear and Surprise Independent asked local high school coaches about their teams. Here are their responses.

Desert Edge Scorpions

Girls coach: Marci Thraen (fourth year overall)
Region: Division II Section III
Who are your top returning golfers? This year I have 4 girls returning.
Who are some newcomers that may have an impact this year? Not sure yet, it is still early in the season.
What is your team’s best attribute entering this season? The girls have a great attitude and a positive outlook going into the season.
What are the primary goals for this year’s team and how has what has happened in the past year-plus changed the focus? COVID-19 really didn't affect us too much, golf is more of an individual sport played outdoors where social distance was easily obtained.

Dysart Demons

Girls coach: Dustin Borst (fourth year at Dysart, sixth year overall)
Region: Developmental Section I (girls)
Who are your top returning golfers? Junior Alyssa Blandford.
Who are some newcomers that may have an impact this year? I am still recruiting more girls. We will probably add two or three more by the end of the week. (Borst said of the week ending Aug. 14)

What is your team’s best attribute entering this season? To be determined
What are the primary goals for this year’s team? The primary team goal is to continue to improve our scores every practice and match we play during the season. Alyssa wants to continue to improve and have potential to make a state run her senior year.

Millennium Tigers

Girls coach: Vicki Turrell (11th year at Millenniu, 30th year as a coach)
Region: Division II Section III
Who are your top returning golfers? Raya Schulz, senior, Izzy Junio, junior, and Kaylee Bowers, junior.
Who are some newcomers that may have an impact this year? Rylee Stovall, freshman and Phaedra Lattouf, sophomore transfer .
What is your team’s best attribute entering this season? Getting along and they enjoy each other's company.
What are the primary goals for this year’s team? Participate in team building type of activities to build our unity. Work on skills to handle high intense situations. Finish in the top 5 in state

Valley Vista Monsoon

Girls coach: Steve Trezzo (seventh year)
Region: Division I Southwest
Who are your top returning golfers? Nikki Bowen, Lizzy Jenson, Megan Eaton and Megan Gatz. Nikki Bowen finished 23rd last year in state as a freshman.
What is your team’s best attribute entering this season? Experienced and full of amazing character and ethics. They love the game even if it constantly reveals our faults.
What are the primary goals for this year’s team? Make it to state as a team, not only individuals.
