West-MEC students celebrate adopt a shelter pet day

Posted

Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) will celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on Wednesday, April 30, by welcoming adoptable animals to its Southwest Campus in Buckeye.

Students in West-MEC’s Veterinary Science Program will provide care to the shelter pets on campus, helping ensure they receive the medical attention and support needed to live healthy, happy lives. The hands-on event highlights both the importance of animal adoption and the role of career and technical education in preparing students for future careers in animal care.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day serves as a reminder that millions of animals across the country are placed in shelters and deserve a second chance.

The Veterinary Science Program trains students to deliver medical care to domestic, exotic, and large animals, and works with local shelters to provide essential veterinary services to animals in need. Upon completion of the program, students are prepared to pursue certifications such as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America Veterinary Assistant Certification.

All animals on campus during the event will be available for adoption.

The event will take place at West-MEC’s Southwest Campus, located at 500 N. Verrado Way in Buckeye.
