Weekly COVID-19 cases remain steady at Litchfield, Agua Fria school districts

Outbreaks remain on the majority of campuses

COVID-19 cases have remained steady at Agua Fria Union High School District and at Litchfield Elementary School District, down from a high of cases in mid-to late August, according to data released by both districts.

Agua Fria Union High School District and Litchfield Elementary School District both make COVID case numbers available to the public through their coronavirus dashboards. 

AFUHSD COVID dashboard is updated in real time, while LESD's dashboard is updated every Friday.

Agua Fria Union High School District case count

Agua Fria Union High School District is reporting 54 active COVID-19 cases as of Monday, Sept. 20. 

Of those, 43 cases are students and 11 are of staff members. 

The district has seen a sharp decline in cases since the end of last month. On Aug. 20, AFUHSD was reporting 142 active COVID cases.

On Aug. 23, the district was required by the Maricopa County Department of Health to enforce quarantine measures for unvaccinated students who have come in "close contact" with  a COVID-positive person. 

Previously, the district did not require students to quarantine even if they had been exposed to COVID-19.

  • Verrado: 4 total cases; all reported cases are of students 
  • Agua Fria :11 total cases; 8 students, 3 staff 
  • Canyon View: 13 total cases; 11 students, 2 staff
  • Desert Edge:  16 total cases; 12 students, 4 staff
  • Millennium: 9 total cases; 8 students, 1 staff
  • New Directions: 1 total case; reported case is of a staff member

All five of AFUHSD’s traditional campuses are still experiencing outbreaks. A school is said to have an outbreak when two or more students or staff from different households test positive for COVID-19 within a two-week period, according to county health officials.

Litchfield Elementary School District case count

On Friday, Litchfield Elementary School District reported 36 weekly cases and 302 total cases since fall semester began on Aug. 2. LESD is also reporting 164 active quarantine cases. 

The district was reporting 68 weekly cases in the final days of August. 

District board members voted unanimously on Aug. 17 to mandate masks in schools, leaving parents the choice to opt out. The mandate went into effect Aug. 19, and is set to expire Sept. 28, one day before a statewide ban on mask mandates in public and charter schools goes into effect.

  • Belen Soto Elementary: 2 total cases reported; 14 active quarantine cases
  • Corte Sierra Elementary: 2 total cases reported; 6 active quarantine cases
  • Dreaming Summit Elementary: 1 total case reported; 4 active quarantine cases
  • Litchfield Elementary: 1 total case reported; 5 active quarantine cases
  • L. Thomas Heck Middle School: 2 total cases reported; 7 active quarantine cases
  • Mabel Padgett Elementary: 0 total cases reported; 5 active quarantine cases
  • Palm Valley Elementary: 0 total cases reported; 2 active quarantine cases
  • Rancho Santa Fe Elementary: 1 total cases reported; 2 active quarantine cases
  • Scott L. Libby Elementary: 2 total cases reported; 12 active quarantine cases
  • Verrado Elementary: 5 total cases reported; 8 active quarantine cases
  • Verrado Heritage Elementary: 2 total cases reported; 3 active quarantine cases
  • Verrado Middle School: 2 total cases reported; 9 active quarantine cases
  • Western Sky Middle School: 7 total cases reported; 69 active quarantine cases
  • White Tanks Learning Center: 0 total cases reported; 0 active quarantine cases
  • Wigwam Creek Middle School: 1 total cases reported; 3 active quarantine cases
