Three Southwest Valley students win Hispanic youth award

Posted

High school seniors from across the state, including three from the Southwest Valley, received Youth Awards from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation for leadership in the classroom and community.

Aylen Villaseñor, a senior in Goodyear won the bronze award for sustainability. Jayda Sáenz, of Buckeye, took the bronze award for the media and entertainment category and  Elizabeth Vázquez, also of Buckeye, took the bronze award for the sports and fitness category.

The purpose of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards is to recognize high-achieving Hispanic high school seniors across the United States and Puerto Rico.

A total of 24 Arizona students were presented with the youth award on Feb. 9 in a virtual ceremony hosted by actor Michael Cimino, star of Hulu’s “Love, Victor,” according to an announcement released by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.

Thousands of high school students apply annually to the Youth Awards, which is the main feeder to the LOFT (Latinos On Fast Track) Leadership Institute, focused on leadership, workforce, community, culture and social justice led in partnership by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Trinity University.

The Youth Awardees and the applicants will also be funneled into the LOFT Network with access to mentors, resources, networking, workshops, symposia, summits, Charlas, internships and full-time positions with Fortune 500 companies.
