Litchfield Park turkey drive to benefit St. Mary's Food Bank

Super Saturday goal is 10,000 holiday birds

Posted

Albertsons in Litchfield Park is among 22 Valley Albertson's and Safeway stores that have partnered with St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance to collect 10,000 turkeys as part of the alliance's 14th annual Super SaturdayTurkey Drive, Nov. 21.

Those wishing to contribute to the drive, presented by Mobile Minie, can visit the store, 12970 W. Indian School Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, and look for the giant inflatable turkey.

The Food Bank distributed more than 12,000 holiday food boxes in the three days leading up to Thanksgiving in 2019.

Each year, hopes are that each will contain a turkey and other assorted holiday dinner items giving Arizona families the chance to enjoy the comforting tradition of a holiday meal.

In addition to helping reach the goal of 10,000 donated turkeys, St. Mary’s Food Bank staff and  volunteers will accept any monetary or food donations (both perishable and non-perishable) on Super Saturday.

Every dollar donated will help St. Mary’s provide seven meals for those in need during the holiday season. All staff members and volunteers will be masked and gloved and observe all social distancing protocols. Hand sanitizer will be available at all locations.

Albertsons and Safeway will help St. Mary’s reach its goal by matching the first 1,000 turkeys donated during Super Saturday.

“This has been the most challenging of the 53 years that the World’s First Food Bank has serving the hungry of Arizona,” St. Mary’s Food Bank President and CEO Tom Kertis stated in a news release. “We thank all of those who have helped the Food Bank say ‘Yes!’ to all families in need and we ask you to help us again during this special time of the year.”
