Southwest Ballet Theatre Announces Spring Performances

Southwest Ballet Theatre announced its debut of two condensed
ballets; the classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the fantastical “Firebird” under the artistic direction of Tasha Stramecki.

A Midsummer Night's Dream, one of William Shakespeare's plays, has been  adapted for the ballet stage and promises to delight audiences of all ages.

The story follows the misadventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors who find themselves caught up in a magical forest inhabited by fairies, including the mischievous Puck.

In addition to this enchanting production, SWBT will also present The Firebird ballet, a captivating tale of love, bravery, and magic.

Set in a mystical forest, this ballet tells the story of a prince who
must capture the elusive Firebird and defeat an evil sorcerer to save his kingdom.

Adding to the magic of these two productions will be stunning artwork and costume design from local artists.

“Ballet’s origin dates back to the 15th century and was developed as an integrated art form, combining high artistic standards in movement, music, art, and theater. As the director of SWBT, it is a dream to be collaborating with my husband Jorge Arrunategui, a fine artist for over thirty five years to bring this production to life," expressed Stramecki.

Southwest Ballet Theatre is on 5115 N. Dysart Road, Ste. 202-189 in Litchfield Park.

The Spring performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Firebird ballet will take place at the Performing Arts Center at Estrella Mountain Community College, Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23, 2023.

This production is made possible by season sponsor Desert Diamond Casino West Valley and a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, an agency of the State of Arizona. Performance times and tickets are available now and can be purchased at www.swbtballet.org.
