I have speculated since I first saw it that the sidewalk work was due to the ADA [Americans with disabilities Act].
The ADA only required “reasonable” accommodations.
The opponents of the act at the time said the law would quickly and greatly expand the requirement and it has.
The work being done is destroying existing infrastructure and the capital put into it. It is also spending capital to replace the destroyed parts.
Is this really a good way to squander resources? And what is the purpose of widening the sidewalk 6’ or 9’ or so in the middle of the block? I can’t figure that out.
