The Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek recently inducted new officers to lead the club for the 2020-21 operating year, marking the start of its fourth year since chartering in 2017.

“During our recent virtual induction ceremony via Zoom conducted by our District Governor, we installed a strong slate of new officers to guide our club,” said outgoing President Charlie Miller.

“As we reflect on our past year’s efforts, our Rotary Club donated more than $38,000 to deserving community social service agencies. Recipients included The Salvation Army, the Southwest Lending Closet, and the Agua Fria Food Bank,” Mr. Miller said.

Also included was $5,000 in college scholarships to local deserving graduating seniors. Since 2018, the Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek has donated nearly $66,000 to many community groups, youth service school programs and international philanthropic efforts representing Rotary’s service areas.

The incoming officers recently installed include President Joan Smith, President-Elect Shelly Hornback, Vice President Bob Charlton, Secretary Lynda Hyde and Treasurer Tom Leyda. Mr. Miller will remain on the board as immediate past president.

Also confirmed were committee chairs leading charitable activities for the club in addition to the Fundraising and Membership Committees.

The club’s Philanthropic Foundation, which manages charitable giving to community causes was recently revamped with new officers.

Ms. Smith was honored as Rotarian of the Year for her outstanding work leading the club’s principal fund-raising effort with the annual golf tournament.

The club is temporarily meeting virtually due to COVID-19 mitigation guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, typically meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays in the PebbleCreek’s Tuscany Falls clubhouse Chianti Room. Interested prospective members and affiliate snowbird members are encouraged to join members for coffee when normal Wednesday meetings resume.
