Preliminary election results for the Agua Fria Union High School District governing board indicate a competitive race for the three available seats.
The top three candidates will join incumbent board members Vickie Landis and Eric Cultum, who are currently serving their terms.
At 9:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Kristen Acton, Sarah Lewis-Silk and Corby Hopkins Naylor are leading in the polls.
The governing board oversees key decisions for the district, which serves students in the West Valley, including setting policies, approving budgets, and ensuring educational standards are met.
Board members serve four-year terms and volunteer their time to address the district’s needs. They work collaboratively with the superintendent and other staff to guide the direction of the district, from curriculum development to teacher recruitment and student achievement.
The candidates are:
Kristen Acton: Holding 28.35% of the vote, Acton is a registered nurse and small business owner, Acton has served on the board since January 2021 and is seeking re-election for another term.
Sarah Lewis-Silk: Holding 26.61% of the vote, Lewis-Silk is a seasoned educator with experience as a teacher, principal, and HR recruiter, Lewis-Silk has contributed to local educational communities in various roles.
Corby Hopkins Naylor: Holding 24.92% of the vote, Naylor is an educator with 23 years of experience, Naylor has worked as a teacher, principal, and educational consultant.
Carmen Xuan Orozco: Holding 20.12% of the vote, Orozco is an education consultant specializing in diversity and teacher retention, Orozco is committed to promoting equitable education policies.
The five-member Agua Fria Union High School District board plays a vital role in shaping the future of the district by making decisions that impact students, educators, and families.
