In honor of National Poetry Month, the city of Goodyear will showcase the words of eight local poets in Poetry Illuminated, a temporary installation curated by inaugural city of Phoenix poet laureate Rosemarie Dombrowski.
The installation, which will feature poems painted on the ground in luminescent paint that glows at night, will open at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Operators Park, 14222 W McDowell Road, near Trivium East school and Liberty Utilities.
The free opening celebration will run through 8:30 p.m., featuring poetry readings every 30 minutes, live music, a typewriter poet, glow sticks and a magnetic poetry wall.
Face coverings, social distancing and other COVID-19 safety protocols recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be observed, city officials said in a Facebook event post.
The installation will be available through Saturday, April 24, so residents can stroll through the park at their leisure and view the illuminated “glow poetry.”
Poems are 40 words or less and represent age groups from under 18 to adults and seniors.
Ms. Dombrowski served as Phoenix poet laureate from 2016 to 2020. She is founding editor of rinky dink press, a publisher of micro-collections of micro-poetry, and The Revolution (Relaunch), a creative resurgence of the official newspaper of the National Woman’s Suffrage Association.
