The city of Litchfield Park will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy with a public flag-raising ceremony on the front lawn of City Hall.
The event will begin 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13 at 214 W. Wigwam Blvd. City officials say the ceremony is part of a broader effort to honor the servicemembers in the community and across the nation.
The U.S. Navy traces its founding to a resolution passed by the Continental Congress in 1775, authorizing the outfitting of a sailing vessel with ten carriage guns and 80 men for a three-month cruise. The Department of the Navy was formally established in 1798.
