The city of Litchfield Park is asking residents who opted for fresh-cut Christmas trees this year to recycle them by Friday, Jan. 8, so they can be chipped and used for mulch and groundcover for a local farm.

Trees should be stripped of ornaments, tinsel, garland, lights and other decorations, removed from their tree stands, and dropped off any time in the designated area just east of City Hall, 214 W. Wigwam Blvd.

Potted and artificial trees will not be accepted. Public Works officials ask residents not to leave trees at curbside or to bag them before dropping off.

For information, call Public Works at 623-935-1066.

Residents around the Southwest Valley also may drop off one tree per family at A to Z Rentals & Equipment, 803 E. Van Buren St., Avondale, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the exception of New Year’s Eve, when the office is open 8 a.m. to noon and New Year’s Day, when it’s closed for the holiday.

For more information, call 623-9250-0200.
