Little League to pay fees to offset field maintenance, lighting costs

The Litchfield Park City Council unanimously approved Feb. 19 a use agreement with Litchfield Park Little League that sets usage fees and regulations for Jackie Robinson Field, 14451 W. Camelback Road.

Based on hourly field rental and light-use fees totaling $15 per hour for games, tournaments and practices, the Little League will pay about $600 per month to use the field, Assistant City Manager Matthew Williams told the council. The revenue will cover field maintenance and electricity costs, he said.

The agreement also outlines what signage may be used on fencing, and it requires lights on the field to be turned off no later than 9 p.m. out of courtesy to nearby residences. The lights are on a timer, Mr.  Williams said.

The council also approved a $59,416 contract with Regional Pavement Maintenance to add a turn lane at Camelback Road and Village Parkway for safer entry into and exit from the field’s new parking lot.

That project was expected to be completed at the end of February, Public Works Director Ben Goodman said.
