The P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center is set to open its latest exhibit, "Crossroads of Change," from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.

This event will be at the center, 13912 W. Camelback Road, in Litchfield Park.

The new exhibit features the black-and-white photography of local photojournalist Jim Painter, who served as managing editor at the West Valley View and as an editor at the Daily News-Sun, precursor to the Daily Independent. His work captures moments from the West Valley during the years of the 1980s and 1990s, a period marked by the sale of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s farmland and the completion of Interstate 10.

These developments played a crucial role in reshaping the region’s landscape and economy said Lisa Hegarty, executive director of P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center.

"Crossroads of Change" is organized into sections that explore various aspects of this transition. Visitors can view images that reflect the agricultural foundation of the area, highlighting the legacy of cotton farming, as well as the impact of major institutions like Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix Raceway, and Phoenix-Goodyear Airport.

The heart of the exhibit presents candid photographs of community life, showcasing local festivals, rodeos, and pageants, which illustrate the daily experiences of residents during this pivotal time.

A reception will follow the opening, providing attendees the opportunity to purchase copies of Painter's book and enjoy refreshments. The exhibit will remain on display until October 2025.
