Litchfield Elementary district Digital Learning Academy unveils Trail Blazers mascot

Posted

In preparation for its launch as the 17th school in the A-rated Litchfield Elementary School District, the Digital Learning Academy has chosen an energetic, adventuresome dune buggy to symbolize the Trail Blazers, the innovative and creative students forging new paths in the online school that will serve kindergarten through eighth-graders with live teaching lessons.

Principal Marlene Capristo enlisted DLA students, families and teachers in choosing the name via an electronic survey. Architectural and engineering firm, DLR Group, donated its services to create the mascot.

“I’m grateful to DLR Group for creating a fun and unique mascot that will engage students to blaze their own trail as they pursue excellence at school and in life,” Ms. Capristo said.

“We are digital, not distant. We will use this fun mascot to drive school spirit and sense of connection within our school family,” fifth-grade teacher Karen Terry said. “Our Trail Blazers will love incorporating the dune buggy into their events and activities.”

“Our Trail Blazers are driven and enthusiastic about their education,” Ms. Capristo added. “The dune buggy is an active and confident symbol of the independence that we value at Litchfield’s Digital Learning Academy.”

Online registration for the Digital Learning Academy and all of Litchfield’s schools is available at lesd79.org. The open enrollment application is available to students throughout Arizona.

LESD has been known for educational excellence for more than a century. With 17 schools in four cities (Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear and Litchfield Park), the district is one of the largest employers in the Southwest Valley.
