Phoenix native Frank Luke Jr. became a legend at age 21, the Society stated in a news release. With 18 aerial victories to his name, he ranks as one of the most successful U.S. Army Air Service pilots in WWI.
He was the first airman to receive the Medal of Honor, which was awarded posthumously, two years after he was shot down over Murvaux, France.
A statue of Lt. Luke stands in front of the State Capitol building, and Luke Air Force Base and Lukeville, Arizona, are named in his honor.
Founders of the First Lt. Frank Luke Jr. Museum, Bill and Sandi Simon, will share the story of Frank Luke Jr.
