Goodyear police hiring, city council approves 14 new positions
City of Goodyear

Goodyear City Council approved 14 police officer positions Monday after an independent assessment recommended the move.
The approval earmarks up to $3,312,400 for the addition of 14 new mid-year positions in the Police Department.
This allocation includes $2,112,100 in ongoing funding, $398,300 in one-time funding, and $802,000 in miscellaneous fees.
Matrix Consulting Group was contracted to analyze the police staffing situation, amid exponential growth in the region and city. Matrix analyzed the next 10 years of growth.
The group found an immediate need for officers ahead of immediate and long-term projected growth.
According to Goodyear Police’s Twitter, the city is currently hiring.
The approval slates one motor officer, commander, victim advocate, background investigator, record specialist, two training officers, and three police assistants for 2024.
The police commander’s position was not recommended. The position will, however, help relieve the deputy chief, who is on call 24-7.
