Goodyear legislator tests positive for COVID-19

Rep. Joanne Osborne, who represents Legislative District 13 in the Arizona House of Representatives, has announced she has tested positive for COVID-19.

LD-13 includes LD13 covers Yuma, Wickenburg, and parts of Buckeye and Goodyear. Ms. Osborne, R-Goodyear, is seeking re-election.

“As most of you have known, I closed our store down two weeks ago because the coronavirus was attacking my staff. With an abundance of caution and concern, this was the right thing to do for our employees and customers,” Ms. Osborne wrote in a Facebook post that included a photo of herself late Monday, June 6. “Unfortunately, it seems I am the last of my team to catch the chaotic COVID-19. I found out late today that I tested positive. Now, of course, we all know I’m positively wonderful!! Hahaha I just didn’t want THIS positive. I will be fine.”

Ms. Osborne and her husband, Ken, own Osborne Jewelers in Goodyear.

“As a state leader, business owner, mother and grandmother, I am not mandating you wear a mask, but I’m asking you as a friend to please help do your part,” Ms. Osborne wrote. “Wear a mask, wash your hands, stay home when sick and let’s kick COVID out of here!! #MaskUpAZ.”

The post generated more than 200 responses wishing Ms. Osborne, her husband and store employees speedy recoveries.

Among those sending well-wishes were Goodyear City Councilwoman Sheri Lauritano and Litchfield Park City Councilwoman Ann Donahue.

Ms. Lauritano asked if she was OK and Ms. Osborne replied, “I am.”

“You are a community hero Joanne ... thank you for posting this and the importance of how contagious this is. Take care of yourself,” Ms. Donahue wrote. “Thanks Ann,” Ms. Osborne responded.

In response to a friend’s question about her symptoms, Ms. Osborne responded, “headache, sinus congestion, loss of sense of taste and smell — but the loss of energy was the hardest. On my way back!”
