EMCC celebrates back to school season

Posted

Estrella Mountain Community College is hosting an open house 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.

EMCC students and their support systems can receive their welcome at the Estrella Conference Center, 3000 N. Dysart Road, in Avondale. There they will have access to a networking event, open self-guided campus tours to prepare students for their upcoming schedules, financial aid visits, an open bookstore and will receive their student IDs.

“We know that success in the classroom often requires help outside the classroom,” said Alissa Manzoeillo, EMCC’s marketing director. “We’ll have staff available to help students understand the resources we offer for basic needs including child care assistance, our food pantry and tutoring.”

After learning about the campus and coming school year, students can participate in the club and organization fair, visit with EMCC’s animal ambassadors and get hands-on in the biology labs with activities designed for everyone.

EMCC has been making education accessible in the West Valley since 1992 through the broader Maricopa County Community College district. Community colleges such as EMCC offer smaller class sizes, lower costs and flexible schedules and learning options for students earning associate degrees, professional certificates and now bachelor’s degrees. Fall classes start Aug. 17.
