West Valley Mavericks preparing for The Maverick golf tourney

Proceeds from May 14 event to benefit Make-A-Wish Arizona, West Valley charities

The West Valley Mavericks Foundation is gearing up for its annual charity golf tournament at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park.

The eighth annual Maverick Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, May 14, will feature food, fun, networking, live and silent auctions, “premium swag” and of course, golf.

Foundation members, who hail from cities throughout the West Valley created the tournament to raise money for area charities, according to an announcement.

Thanks to the tournament and other fundraisers, the organization has given $1 million since 2013, including $375,000 in grants awarded in 2020.

This year’s featured charity is Make -A-Wish Arizona, which has granted more than 6,000 wishes to Arizona children since 1980.

Litchfield Park’s own Audrey Murphy is one of its most recent wish recipients. In February, the 12-year-old who suffers from debilitating seizures was treated to a Vogue-style fashion shoot courtesy of Make-A-Wish Arizona and its partner, BuzzRx.

Those interested in registering a foursome to play in the tournament, serving as a tournament sponsor or donating auction items may do so by visiting westvalleymavericks.org and clicking on Events, or by calling 623-404-6622.

Among the tournament’s highlights will be the Travis Mathew tour bus, a traveling party bus that makes the round throughout the country, and will again bring music and fresh apparel to the tournament.

The bus features a full rooftop party deck, five high-definition LED TVs, leather seating, a fold-out patio, full kitchen, indoor/outdoor keg, full-length awnings for shade, a complete outdoor entertainment system and many more features the Mavericks invite players to experience for themselves.
