While fireworks are a holiday favorite, safety remains a top priority. The National Fire Protection Association reports that fireworks are a leading cause of injuries requiring emergency room visits, often resulting in burns, fractures or permanent damage.
Under Arizona Revised Statutes, consumer fireworks can be sold from May 20 through July 6 and used from June 24 through July 6. Fireworks must be used on private property with the property owner’s permission and are not allowed on public property such as streets, parks or open spaces.
Local jurisdictions may add further restrictions. In Avondale, the city code prohibits the use, discharge or ignition of fireworks except during the dates and conditions outlined in state law. Officials advise residents to use only state-approved fireworks from authorized dealers, follow instructions carefully and ensure adult supervision. Fireworks should only be used outdoors, away from homes, dry vegetation and flammable materials. After use, fireworks should be soaked in water before disposal.
More information about consumer fireworks regulations is available on the Consumer Fireworks Regulation webpage.
Whether it's a dazzling drone display or a lakeside fireworks show, West Valley cities are offering a range of safe, festive options for families to celebrate this Fourth of July.
