Upgrades announced for Friendship Park

The City of Avondale and its Parks and Recreation Department have announced a series of planned upgrades to Friendship Park, with improvements set to roll out throughout 2025 and 2026.

Located at 12325 W. McDowell Road, Friendship Park will receive new amenities and enhancements aimed at improving the experience for park users. Planned improvements include:

  • New pickleball courts
  • Upgraded dog park amenities
  • Softball field improvements
  • Public art installations

As part of the upgrade process, the dog park will be subject to periodic closures. During those times, the city encourages pet owners to use other dog-friendly parks in Avondale, including Alamar Park at 4155 S. El Mirage Road and Festival Fields Park at 101 E. Lower Buckeye Road.

Friendship Park is one of the city’s largest and most popular recreational areas. Existing amenities include a softball field, wo Little League baseball fields, two basketball courts, nine multi-use sports fields, walking trails, a Japanese garden, two tennis courts, three playgroundsa splash pad, dog parks, a community fishing pond, picnic ramadas and water bottle refill stations
