SkaterCon 10 comes to Goodyear

Posted

SkaterCon 10 will be held at the Goodyear Community Park Skate Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.  The event will feature a full day of skating competitions, live music, and a skate clinic for youth.

Located at 3151 N. Litchfield Rd., SkaterCon 10 will include Best Trick Bowl Contests for multiple skill divisions, with a $1,000 cash prize for the "Last Man Standing" contest in the bowl. A skate clinic will also be offered for children to improve their skills.

"The Goodyear skatepark has some of the biggest and best transitional features in Arizona, which allows some of the best skaters around to display their full potential and blow the minds of the attendees," stated SkaterCon President Adam Richards.

SkaterCon 10 will bring together notable figures from the skateboarding community including Chris Haslam, Andy Roy, Monty Nolder, Eric Dressen and Steve Alba.

Live performances will feature Luicidal, with members of Suicidal Tendencies; Go Betty Go; Since We Were Kids!; The Skavelinas; and Corky’s Leather Jacket. The music aligns with the skatercore style, blending punk and hardcore influences commonly associated with skateboarding culture.

A vendor village will offer a variety of skateboarding products and related items for attendees. There will also be walk-up tattooing done by a representative from Dame of the West Tattoo, a shop based in Scottsdale.

Departure is a skating company that will be launching its business at the event. It will be selling 25 different shapes of boards catered to specialized skating needs like technical skating, every day, bigger terrain, trick precision and stability.

“We are inviting the public to be a part of our ongoing research and development program,” stated Aaron Venditte, Departure representative.  “Pro skateboarders don't buy skateboards, so why should they be the only ones testing them?”

At Skatercon, attendees will be able to purchase or special order a Departure prototype deck on sale and give feedback to developers.

“We're super excited to have the general public be a part of our research and development program,” stated Venditte.

Admission is free for children 10 and under with an adult. Adult tickets are $25, available for purchase online or at the event.

Parking will be at Estrella Mountain Community College. Shuttles will run from 9:30a.m. to 6:30p.m. from the college to the Southwest Valley Family YMCA, located next to the Goodyear Community Park skate park.

Litchfield Road will be closed in both directions between Thomas Road and Avalon Drive between 5a.m. to 9p.m. for the event.
