Sale of 978 E. Roosevelt St. topic of Apache Junction council executive session

Posted

The sale of city-owned residential property at 978 E. Roosevelt St. is one of two topics on the Apache Junction City Council’s May 17-18 closed-door executive sessions.

The 2.37 acres, abandoned for several years, was often occupied by trespassers while the owners lived in Germany. The city removed nonconforming structures and trespassers with owner cooperation, and the owner, no longer wishing to deal with the parcel further, donated it to the municipality, according to city records.

The property is to be sold by the city, with proceeds put in the general fund or given to a nonprofit development corporation, the municipality’s planning and zoning commission was told late last year.

The City Council is to meet in executive session, which is not open to the public, at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the City Council Conference Room, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

Items on the agenda are:

  • Discussion or consultation with city staff in order to consider the city’s position and any instruction needed relating to the sale of 978 E. Roosevelt St., Apache Junction, and any associated legal advice from the city attorney; and
  • Discussion or consultation with the city attorney for the purpose of legal advice and employment consideration regarding the recruitment and appointment process — inclusive of applicant interviews — for the position of presiding city magistrate and potential employment contract that will ultimately be the subject of negotiation at time of appointment for such position.
