Domestic violence shelter receives in-kind donations from Tolleson store

The Southwest Valley’s New Life Center, one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the country, recently partnered with the Home Depot in Tolleson to receive in-kind donations from the community.

In addition, the store at 9081 W. Washington St. gifted the center with three tankless water heaters, according to a release. Over the past few months, New Life Center’s water heaters have steadily declined in their effectiveness, making this donation one that was desperately needed.

“The support of our community makes a tangible difference in the lives of people impacted by domestic violence,” said Jessye Johnson, NLC’s chief strategy and administration officer. “We are so thankful for the Home Depot and their assistance in providing much-needed supplies and appliances to our center.”

Mattresses, hair conditioner, shaving cream, mattress covers, water bottles, and baby diapers and bottles were among the items donated.

New Life Center serves more than 1,000 children and adults annually through an emergency shelter and outreach support program, with children making up more than 70% of the shelter population.

In 2017, the shelter served more children and provided more bed nights than any other single facility providing emergency shelter to domestic violence survivors in Arizona, the release stated.
