Posted

Margaret, 93, passed away in her sleep on October 27, 2020, in Peoria, AZ. She was born on October 19, 1927, in Tiffin, OH, the daughter of William “Reuben” Engle and Hazel Margaret Kern.
Justine graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1945 and started work in the engineering department of National Machinery in Tiffin.
On May 24, 1946, she married a high school boyfriend, Max M. McCormick, also of Tiffin, after he finished serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After her marriage, Justine worked in the Tiffin GE factory making electrical windings for refrigerator motors. Although the working conditions were less desirable than at National Machinery, the pay was much better, and Max was financially able to start attending Heidelberg College.
In 1968, when the youngest children were in high school, Justine decided to embark on a career as an educator, and began taking classes at Monroe County Community College in Monroe, MI, where she made the Dean’s List, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. After graduation from MCCC, she transferred to Eastern Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English, Language, and Literature, and where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.
After graduating from college, she started teaching elementary school in the Ida Public Schools, the same school system her children had attended. After teaching for 18 years, Justine retired in 1990. Soon after Justine’s retirement, she and Max moved to Sun City, AZ.
In retirement, Justine continued to enjoy her love of travel, visiting China, Russia, Europe, UK, Canada, and Costa Rica, and many US states including Alaska and Hawaii. She also continued collecting Tiffin glass and researching her father’s ancestral line.
Also, in retirement, Justine began volunteering at Boswell Hospital, eventually serving as trainer for new volunteers, and was recognized for having served over 14,500 hours as a hospital volunteer.
Justine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, and a brother Eugene. She is survived by her brother Phil Engle of Tiffin, OH, her five children and their spouses: Greg (Dianne) of N. Muskegon, MI, Chris (Linda) of Surprise, AZ, Mark (Mary) of Kalamazoo, MI, Kent (Ruth) of Rochester Hills, MI, and Carol (Bob) Martin of Houston, TX; and 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
There was no funeral service, but a private interment service will be held at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ.
