Until recently, the 1918 was largely forgotten and rarely studied. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been renewed interest in this period of history.
From 1918 to 1920, the flu virus ravaged virtually every part of the globe. It inspired fear, stretched resources to the limit and often overwhelmed existing health services.
It even left a lasting mark in the newly formed town of Litchfield Park and the surrounding area.
History buffs are invited to join speaker Lisa Hegarty as she examines the impact influenza had on Arizona and the Southwest Valley.
Ms. Hegarty is a member of the historical society, where she serves as board vice president, programming coordinator, docent coordinator and curator. She curated the museum’s current exhibit on the 1918 pandemic.
The two-hour lecture will take place at the church, 300 N. Old Litchfield Road, and will be live-streamed via Zoom.
