Litchfield Heritage Center hosts classic game-based Discovery Day events

Posted

The P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center will host two Discovery Day events in July, offering hands-on activities for children and families with a focus on local history.

Events are scheduled for Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include demonstrations of classic games such as marbles, jacks and pick-up sticks. Children can also complete gallery-based tasks to earn a Junior Historian certificate.

Discovery Days are monthly programs aimed at introducing families to the region’s history through interactive activities tied to art and science.

The Litchfield Heritage Center focuses on the history and development of the Southwest Valley, including the communities of Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Avondale, Tolleson, Cashion, Liberty and Waddell. Exhibits highlight early pioneer families and the influence of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., including its roles in farming, aerospace and defense industries.

The museum operates on summer hours through Labor Day. It is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. Admission is free.
