Grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches made by Litchfield Elementary School District Food Services personnel will still be distributed at four school sites and 14 bus stops, but the days and number of meals have changed, the district announced this week.

On Monday, April 20, LESD Food Services personnel began distributing four meals each on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays instead two meals a day on weekdays. The meals are free to children 18 and younger, regardless of school affiliation. Families do not need to register to pick up meals, but children must be present.

LESD Director of Programs and Instruction Gina DeCoste detailed the changes in a video on the district’s Facebook page.

“We added a Saturday meal for everyone,” she said on the video. Monday’s distribution will include breakfasts and lunches for that day and Tuesday; Wednesday’s will include both meals for that day and Thursday; and Friday’s will include both meals for that dy and Saturday, for a total of six meals per week.

"Revising our grab-and-go distribution schedule allows us to offer more food to families while limiting our staff's exposure in the community,” LESD Director of Community Relations Shelly Hornback said. “Children still get that sense of connection to their school family, and their parents are saving time and gas.”
