Goodyear will resurface 25.4 lane-miles of roadway in four neighborhoods this fall and winter at a cost of $1.935 million.
The Goodyear City Council approved City Traffic Engineer Hugh Bigalk’s recommendation to greenlight the projects during its regular meeting Oct. 5. The repaving is part of a seven-year project to improve roadways in the city and will extend the life streets for seven to 10 years, he said.
The bulk of the projects’ cost, $782,600, will cover high-volume fractured agregate surface treatment typically applied on arterial, collector and rural roadways where cracking is moderate to severe and provides structural assistance to the pavement.
The remaining amounts are $434,000 for low-volume Cape seal, typically applied to local streets where the cracking is moderate to severe and provides structural assistance to thin layer pavements; $250,000 for crack sealing, $200,000 for pavement data inventory, $150,000 for roadway preparation and Americans With Disabilities Act ramp repairs and replacements, and $118,300 for Rainbow Valley Road surface preparation.
Pavement Management Coordinator Bill Harvell said neighborhoods slated for low-volume paving include the southwest corner of Canyon Trails Phase 1 and Rancho Mirage in the city’s northern end, and Coronado Village 7.8 and 7.9 in the city’s southern end.
Seven miles of Rainbow Valley Road from Riggs Road to Ray Road, and Willis Road from Rainbow Valley Road to Mountain Vista Drive in the city’s southern end are slated for high-volume paving.
Four companies, VSS International Inc., Viasun Corp., IMS Infrastructure Management Services LLC and Bunney’s Inc. will perform the work.
