This week, the city of Goodyear will celebrate the life and legacy of its former mayor, the late Georgia Lord, who died in December while serving her final term in office.
Speakers will include statewide political leaders Gov. Doug Ducey and Rep. Joanne Osborne, Goodyear council members and business leaders as well as Lord’s family and friends.
Lord’s celebration of life will be held at the site of the future Goodyear Civic Square on Friday, a development Lord had envisioned for the city since her early days in public office.
“This is a fitting tribute to the city’s late mayor,” the city of Goodyear wrote in a statement. “For decades, Mayor Lord had been part of an ongoing effort to create a true heart of the city through a city center project.”
Lord became the city’s first female mayor in 2011 after serving on the Goodyear City Council since 2005. She died one year shy of her final term in office.
Those who wish to attend should arrive at Goodyear Civic Square Park on the northwest corner of 150th Drive and McDowell Road. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m.
